VAWA

What is VAWA and what does it stand for?

A) VAWA stands for The Violence Against Women Act, it helps immigrant victims of domestic violence.

When was this law set in place?

A) Originally enacted in 1994 under the Crime Bill and recently reauthorized in 2006 under the Victims of: Trafficking and Violence Protection Act (VTVPA), protects immigrant survivors of abuse.

How does this service help immigrants?

A) This law allows immigrant survivors to regain control of their immigration status and legal identity.

Are you the only immigrant victim?

A) ACCESS currently provides direct representation to and advocates for over 300 immigrant victims of abuse a year throughout the San Diego region.

Will my case be put in a big file and never heard?

No, we have two immigration attorneys specializing in VAWA cases and four college, law, or graduate student interns each semester from San Diego area schools.

How do I get in touch with this type of service?

YES Transition Network offers every youth a chance to  find the career of their dreams.

Following a thorough interest and aptitude assessment :

-  The enrolled Youth attend special classes that tell them about:

1) Interesting jobs that lead to high-paying careers in some of the San Diego industries that are most likely to offer lifelong growth opportunities.

2) Such Academies that we help you with are:

• Health Care
• Computers and Information Systems
• Hospitality and Tourism
• Construction
• Business and Finance
• Education
• Youth Development
• Conservation

You might be asking yourself a few questions and we are here to help you every step of the way.

Q)  How long does the career assessment test take to complete, and how much does it cost?

A)  The test is free to take but it will take about 2 hours to complete so that we can identify which areas of interest will work best with you.

Q)  Where do I go to take the test and what if I don’t have transportation?
