The Hire-A-Youth Program

H-A-Y is a four month job program that will place eligible, work-readiness trained youth at various worksites across San Diego, earning paychecks funded through the economic stimulus package. May Eligibility

Throughout the month of May, qualifying youth will be enrolled into Hire-A-Youth during eligibility certification sessions, then scheduled to complete work readiness training courses which will prepare them for their upcoming employment.

    Training

Access Inc. will work with the youth to develop good work habits, prepare resumes and practice their interviewing skills. Then, using career assessments and developing case plans, we will match the youth to a worksite that aligns with their skills and interests. Once placed, participants will dedicate 20-40 hours a week to their worksite.

      Wages

The summer youth will be paid $8/hr and covered through Access Inc. worker’s compensation. A case manager will be assigned to each worksite to oversee participants’ progress, collect timesheets, and distribute paychecks.

  Monitoring

Access Inc. Case Managers will serve as a mediators and worksite monitors, helping youth understand the expectations of their employer, while assisting the supervisor in communicating with the youth.
