Youth Opportunities

In collaboration with the San Diego Workforce Partnership Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act (WIOA) Program, Access serves over 1,000 youth annually.  Through this program, out-of-school youth ages 16-24 continue their education to receive a high school diploma or GED, learn vocational skills, and explore career options.  Graduates receive ongoing assistance through paid internships, assistance getting a job, and supportive services to help them transition to adulthood. Access provides classes at its headquarters and at partner sites such as San Pasqual Academy, San Diego Workforce Innovation High School and other locations in San Diego County.

Eligibility

Youth aged 16-24 who are out of school, not in training or not working; and have experienced one or more of the following challenges are welcome to join with the team of dedicated Access staff to chart the course of a new future.  Youth with experiences such as previous incarceration, gang affiliation, substance abuse, pregnancy/parenting responsibilities, medical or emotional challenges, homelessness, foster care, immigration, and other issues are welcome.  Virtually all youth in the program have experienced trauma and continue to be at risk.

Community partners from the San Diego Unified School District, San Diego County Office of Education, San Diego Health and Services Department, probation and other law enforcement entities, and a number of community based organizations help identify individuals who can benefit from program opportunities.  Self-referrals are also welcome.

We also work with area schools like San Pasqual Academy and San Diego Workforce Innovation High Schools to provide WIOA services through orientation seminars, career readiness classes, and linkages to AJCC services for 14-15 year olds.
