Access Impacts San Diego County

One out of every three American children lacks a father figure at home. This staggering statistic creates far-reaching implications for our society. At Access, vulnerable youth have a safe space where they can be nurtured and develop their social skills.

Studies have shown that boys who don’t live with their fathers are more prone to criminal activity, and girls without dads frequently become pregnant in adolescence and drop out of school. Understandably, this is why the youth mentorship programs Access offers are valued!

Age Ranges For Youth Programs

Mentoring is beneficial for both the mentor and the mentee. Studies have revealed that when mentors come from similar backgrounds as those in youth programs, it creates an impactful connection between them which often leads the children of these programs to become future mentors themselves, thus perpetuating a cycle of positive influence on youths into the future!

The kids’ ages range from 6 to 17 years old. We have even had older and younger individuals get help here. Moreover, research consistently shows that along with supporting their mentees’ development, mentors experience self-esteem boosts, enhanced life satisfaction, and stronger social connections.

High school students are often at-risk youth and often benefit from coming here. Some of them come and volunteer after or during the summer. Research has demonstrated that when students attend Access it helps, and the high school dropout rate is drastically reduced.
